Since the fall of Izanami and the death of Izanagi, creatures from the
darkness, beings from the darkest of nightmares and all walks of live have risen
from their depths, giving birth to many folklore, legends, old wife.s tales and
other sorts of stories. Ghosts, vampires, werewolves, creatures of the darkness;
all sorts of supernatural beings have since risen up and have made their marks
in mortal society. Not every mortal believes in the supernatural or such
creatures; some choose not to believe while others have yet to see 'proof.'
Regardless of such, supernatural creatures do, in fact, exist, albeit some more
quietly and less obviously as others. These creatures have gone forth since the
dawn of their time, multiplying when necessary and, sometimes, mating with
mortal society. The results, especially throughout the more recent years, have
been the 'creation' of half-breeds, mortals with the blood of these creatures
in them, giving them traits, skills, abilities and/or powers of their unnatural
parent.
Supernaturals vs Society
Supernatural creatures aren't as readily accepted by society if even at all.
No human being of sound mind will readily accept a creature of legend or
mythology with open arms into their everyday life, and most quickly run and flee
in terror. However, supernatural creatures CAN coexist with human beings in
their own society, taking the guises of mortals and living their lives among the
rest of society. Some creatures, such as ghosts and monsters, cannot do such
things. In current society, most creatures who have the ability to blend into
mortal society choose to do so, since mortal society in modern times offers much
for the creatures. Some creatures of the supernatural have the ability to alter
mortals and make them into the beings that they are, such as the infamous
species of vampires, and it isn't uncommon for these creatures to create kin to
ensure the 'survival' of their species. Other creatures, on the other hand,
procreate with humans, creating half-breeds, simply because they can or choose
to do so.
Depending on what the supernatural creature truly is, it can coexist with
humans, living among them and living their lives normally as humans do
while others choose to do so simply to toy and manipulate the humans or use
them in their own ways.
Some creatures of the same species have learned that by joining together
and creating 'societies' of sorts ensure that they can survive in modern
times in mortal society and preserve their species against mortal who would
otherwise hunt them down and kill them. Vampires, werewolves, oni and other
'intelligent' beings have begun to create their own societies within mortal
society, secretly meeting with one another and coming together in times of
need.
Supernaturals - Application Notes
Applications for supernatural-type creatures are rather cut and dry: any sort
of creature of the supernatural, such as werewolves, vampires, oni and other
types are available for application, so long as the following things are taken
into account:
1. The 'creature' applied for MUST fit into normal, mortal society, and can
live among humans as a human itself. In other words, part of the creature's
power should be a power that allows him to take on the guise of a human, if need
be. Basically we're only allowing a very small few amount of supernatural
creatures who are available for application. Anything goes in the way of what
creature you wish to apply for--so long as it fits into society.
2. Supernatural creatures should not be as powerful as Soldiers. They can be
about on PAR with the weaker Soldiers, but nothing more, and generally less.
3. Half-breeds are allowed, so long as the justification is there and that
the non-human half of a half-breed is reasonable. It is VERY unlikely that a
human being will mate with the likes of giant spider creatures or Orochi spawn.
Please, be reasonable and rational when deciding upon what you choose your
half-breed to be. So long as the creature has a WAY of mating with mortals in
mortal society, then pretty much anything is allowed. But, again, please,
please, PLEASE be reasonable.
4. Half-breeds, unlike the full-blooded supernatural creatures, are not as
powerful. They have the blood and powers within them, but are often time stuck
in bodies that are weaker than their full-blooded kin, and because of such often
time have a harder time controlling their powers and/or abilities. They are also
often time weaker than full-blooded creatures, having a harder time using their
powers or skills and often time, should they go into battle without proper
training and use of their abilities beforehand, quickly retire and run. However,
should a half-breed find someone or something that can properly train him, they
can prove to be quite a formidable opponent.
5. Also keep in mind, however, that most half-breeds keep their upbringing a
secret to mortal society if at all possible, and thus makes finding a mentor to
teach them their powers rather difficult if not impossible.
